The father and son came to the clinic while the team was in Cambodia in December. Just learning to walk, the baby fell into an open pit where his mother was cooking dinner. The family was uanble to get the child medical treatment. Because of scar tissue, he had been unable to close his eyes for months. Faith Medical Missions paid for his first surgery. FMM president John Wilson is currently in Cambodia to set up a mission trip for November and to visit this family to determine how many additional surgeries the baby will need.

Faith Medical Missions schedules trip to Haiti

Chickasha-based Faith Medical Missions is gearing up for a relief trip to Haiti. John Wilson, founder of the organization, hopes to leave with a team of 30 on April 24 for a nine-day trip.

Wilson said trauma teams are necessary immediately after natural disasters but teams of medical personnel that deliver general medical care are desperately needed in the weeks that follow.

“By the time this team arrives in Haiti, infection and disease from lack of food, water and unsanitary conditions will be settling into the population in and around Port-au-Prince,” Wilson said.  “Faith Medical Missions specializes in setting up short-term medical clinics, sometimes for only a day in one location to deliver medical care in remote and very poor areas around the world.”

Since the ministry’s creation in 2003, Faith Medical Missions has delivered hope and healing on 26 mission trips in Central and South America, Romania, Thailand and Cambodia. Wilson has coordinated more than 100 medical mission trips over his 26-year career, shepherding teams to more than 20 countries around the world.

Faith Medical Missions has a connection in Haiti through a church mission organization that runs schools in Port-au-Prince. Wilson said the team will work out of the ministry’s compound and in schools the ministry runs in and around the city.

“Ideally, we will be able to take a team of 12 to 15 medical personnel along with 12 to 15 people who are non medical who can assist in the eye clinic and work with the local churches as an evangelism team,” Wilson said. “I estimate we can treat more than 7,000 people during the seven clinic days.”

Faith Medical Missions needs donations to finance the trip, including the cost of medicine, supplies and shipping. If more funds are received than are needed to make the trip possible, Wilson said FMM will consider doing a second trip or the funds will be used to send supplies to the ministry’s contact in Haiti.

“All funds received for Haiti will be used for Haiti,” Wilson said.

Team members will need to cover their own expenses. For more information, contact FMM at 405-224-0069 or email johnwilson@faithmed.org. Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to Faith Medical Missions, PO Box 1626, Chickasha, OK, 73018. The ministry does accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover.
